Today’s forecast.
Orlando Hernandez’ balky toe and horrid performance kept me from winning a 2nd in a row. But I feel today is a bounce back type of day. Today’s prediction has all to do with pitching matchups.
The Cardinals look to snap a season-high six-game losing streak and avoid being swept in Cincinnati for the first time in over four years when they meet the Reds today. The Cardinals are sending Kip Wells and his 6-16 record to the mound today. See why I like the Reds? The veteran right-hander has lost three straight starts, posting a 10.80 ERA in that span. Over his career, Wells is 2-9 with a 4.80 ERA in 18 starts and a relief appearance against the Reds. The Cardinals have given him no runs of support in each of his last two starts, and just two in the outing before that.
Cincinnati will counter with Aaron Harang, who with a record of 14-4 has been one of the leagues top pitchers. Talk about polar opposites. In his last start, the right-hander gave up two runs and seven hits while striking out seven in seven innings of a 4-3 loss to Milwaukee. Harang is 1-0 with a 3.29 ERA in two starts against the Cardinals this season, and 3-3 with a 4.78 ERA in eight career starts against them.
So take the better pitcher and take the Reds over the Cardinals. You’ll thank me for this one.
Good luck with your action tonight!
