Hand of the Week – A Real Head Scratcher

I was in my local card room when the following hand happened. It was just about one of the oddest things I’ve seen in quite awhile. The game was $1-$2 no limit hold em and we were 9-handed.I was in middle position and had rags so I folded. No one else called but the button and the blinds. So there was a measly $6 in the pot pre-flop.
The flop was Ah-6d-3h. In what seemed like an eternity, all 3 players checked. Still $6 in the pot. The turn was the 9h putting three hearts on the board. Again, it took a long time and both blinds checked. The button player, seemingly disinterested, threw his cards away so now we were heads up. The river was the Ks and after about 30 seconds, the small blind bet $30 into a $6 pot! What was that?? Then, the Big Blind immediately announced a raise and makes in $75 to go. All of a sudden, there was over $100 in the pot and the table was stunned.
The small blind thought for a while and asks the big blind, “Do you have a full house?” No response and he called. The big blind turns over the Qh-4h for a flush. The small blind flips over the Kh-5h for the nut flush. Good thing for the big blind that the board paired huh? I can’t imagine what these guys were thinking as it just made very little sense to me.
Until next time, may the chips fall your way.
